Fall training and Worlds wrap up.

Home and Training

It has been over a month since the World’s in Shanghai, and I have had time to look back and reflect on my accomplishments and areas of improvements from the past year.  Even though I did not meet my personal goals in Shanghai, I have been able to learn from the experience and use it as motivation to train harder and have a successful 2012 Olympic year

Since the meet in Shanghai the team had a couple of weeks off to rest before a year of intense training.  I spent some time in Greece, testing out the amazing food, reenergizing in the sun, and keeping a feel for the water by swimming in the ocean daily.  I arrived back in Victoria with a hunger to have the best year of my career and to put up results in the international arena.

Since being home in Victoria, we have been in the pool and doing dryland once a day.  In addition to this I am doing additional runs, tennis matches and weekely crossfit workouts to maintain and build my strength for when we return to our regular training schedule on september 18th.  This is a website for the crossfit Victoria facility that I have been attending.  Check out the site for some of the workouts of the days (WOD). http://crossfitzone.ca

I want to thank all the support staff and coaches that accompanied us this summer to Singapore and Shanghai.  It is clear that we have one of the best support staffs in the world and it is truly a pleasure for me to be able to work with such wonderful people on a daily basis.  I want to thank my coach Randy bennett who was also the head coach of the national team.  Randy has developed one of the best training environments in the world and it is a pleasure to train for him at the VAS.

Now that I am back in Victoria on my regular schedule the site will be regularly updated so please check it out.  I will be doing video blogs with athletic meal ideas, and I will be sharing recipes designed for athletes, with photos and videos. Enjoy
Thank you for your continued support.  Knowing I have people behind me and rallying for my success is a great motivation to reach my goals.

Check out these two videos: the first video of a 26.5 50 meter underwater fly kick during our staging camp in Singapore; and the second video is an awesome inspirational training video I found on youtube.  Enjoy

Sick video! Sick underwater too! That’s something I’m really trying to focus on, and I’ve got a question; how large do you think your kick amplitude is? I also heard you went a 21 for a 50 underwater, have you ever?

Stefan

Hey buddy thanks for the comment and question. The trick to being a great underwater kicker is to keep the amplitude small and tight while engaging the core. The stronger the core the more stable each kick will be. Try squeezing your butt and holding your thighs together as you kick. I have kicked 21.7 underwater for a 50 lcm but I had fins on :) . Thanks for the comments!
